The sun shined in Kawerau over the weekend as 65 people turned out in force to battle for their place in the NZ National Slalom teams. With only 3 in each class there was some extremely tight and harsh racing.

A windy wet and cold weekend has been and gone. This was the weekend that the Criags Investment Partners Tinman Triathlon came to town in Mount Manganui! It was an awesome event that consisted of a swim in Pilot Bay, a bike down Marine Parade to Papamoa and finished with a run around the Mount. I raced in the sprint distance, which included a 750m swim, 20km bike and a 5.5 km run. The 2011/2012 summer is coming. With December quickly approaching the Okere Falls community is getting into the summer games! Doing laps of the slalom course and getting prepared for the next season.

It's an epically beautiful place with one of the sickest rivers I have ever had the opportunity to paddle on. It's like a perfect mix of the forgivness of the kaituna with some characteristics of the wairoa.
